چکیده

This is the first of a projected "Maudsley Monograph" series intended to report work carried out at The Institute of Psychiatry (Univ. Lond.) and the associated Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals. In this study Dr. Sainsbury sets out to investigate the social characteristics of the various boroughs in the County of London and their effect on the individuals living in them. He shows that the differences in the suicide rates of boroughs are correlated with differences in certain social characteristics, especially the degree of social isolation, of mobility, and of disorganisation within each

Suicide mortality in Greater London: changes during the past 25 years.

Suicide mortality in the area now administered by the Greater London Council was assessed for three five-year periods 1949-1953, 1959-63, and 1969-73. For each of the periods the standard mortality ratio (SMR) for suicide in various boroughs was calculated for men and women separately. The boroughs with high SMRs for men were constant. There was a pronounced change in the geographical distribut...

It may be plausible therefore to expect a much greater impact on suicide in the UK in response to the events of 7 July 2005, caused by the first suicide terrorist attack by Islamic extremists on British soil. AIMS To examine the effect of the 7 July 2005 terrorist attack...

Eco-evolutionary feedbacks, adaptive dynamics and evolutionary rescue theory.

Adaptive dynamics theory has been devised to account for feedbacks between ecological and evolutionary processes. Doing so opens new dimensions to and raises new challenges about evolutionary rescue. Adaptive dynamics theory predicts that successive trait substitutions driven by eco-evolutionary feedbacks can gradually erode population size or growth rate, thus potentially raising the extinctio...
